Flat Roofing

A flat roof is a roof with a ‘pitch’ of no more than 10 degrees. They have, of course, been around for hundreds of years particularly in arid climates. They have gained popularity in this country in the last few decades as home extensions became so frequent – dormers often being the extension of choice.

In some cases, they also have the benefit of the possibility of being used as a balcony/living space - depending on positioning and other factors.

Traditionally, domestic flat roofs use two or more built up layers of bituminous felt as their weather proofing, applied with intense heat. Liquid applied systems such as glass fibre have recently been introduced and are now quite widely used.
